Overview
Evergreen Credit Union needs a mobile-friendly app for its automobile loan application. The applicants must be able to completely submit an application for a car loan through their phone.
Since I had the reference application ready for me to use, I decided to create a user journey map to break down the steps necessary to complete the loan application. As I went through it, I realized that some of the information was not necessary for every applicant. I knew then and there that I needed to apply progressive disclosure to the design of the mobile app.
Process
Evergreen Credit Union's current loan application is in paper format and it was necessary to include necessary information required for the application process.  I was provided with the application and I had to brainstorm a way to place this information in a mobile application that would not be easily abandoned by the client.

I created a using a user journey map following the paper application and thought of the best way to layout the form so that the experience became seamless and quick. As I did the user journey map, I began to also think about features that I would need to include in the design:
  • Progress Bar- it enables the user to understand where they are in the application process

  • Progressive Disclosure- reading through the paper application I realized that not all form fields applied to all users

  • Back Buttons/Opportunity to come back and save work - some users might need to come back to the application so I want to provide them with the reassurance that their work has been saved and can be returned to

I sketched some ideas on what I would like for the design to look like before moving on to Figma to start creating a high-fidelity mockup. I was able to better visualize how I wanted to progressively disclose some of the form fields to the user based on their answers. One of the solutions became accordions and adding "add more +" buttons to give them the ability to add further details.

Solution
Next Steps
Currently, the Evergreen Auto Loan App needs to go through some rounds of usability testing to see how users are able to navigate it and to address any pain points that the current design might have. To solidify the design, a heuristic evaluation will be needed to inspect the UI for any usability problems.

After the usability testing is completed, I can finalize the prototyping.
